Kimara offers apparels for all seasons

Whether you’re looking for an affordable maxi dress with floral embroidery or tunics with dramatic sleeves, this week-old 250 sq feet studio is your go-to place. Curated and handpicked from Asian countries, interior designer-cum-entrepreneur Rithika Shankar’s collection is young and vibrant, and caters to the millenials.When we peep into her store, her interior design background is evident. The shop has a moderately lit ambience with numerous track lights, tungsten filaments, chandeliers and spiral tube bulbs. “We made sure that only recycled wood and scrapped metal was used. From wooden shelves with embedded coir fibre to scraps of metal used as wall pieces, all these are made from waste materials,” says the 24-year-old, who completed her interior designing course from SRM University, Chennai, before she interned with architect Sujatha Sankar for six months and worked with a German Kitchen company for a year. She will also be launching an online portal for her home decor collection by the year-end.  

A rustic touch
“Although I actively took part in exhibitions, the fact that we were given only limited time and constrained space to display our collection always bothered me. Hence I decided to have my own space,” says Rithika, who started Kimara as an online portal a year and a half back.With a colour palette ranging from bright floral motifs in spring to sober pastel shades in winter, she has a variety to offer and promises to update her collection every three months. “Most of my clients come shopping before their vacations, so I ensure that there is a bit of everything that would suit the weather at various destinations — it could be a pleated skirt for a fall or a flowy palazzo for a summer,” shares Rithika.
