With a variety of styles—from comfortable kaftan and shifts to chic wrap dresses and jumpsuits, Brass Tacks’ latest collection is your go-to for formal occasions as well as a fun dinner outing. Chennai-based designer Anaka Narayanan, owner of this 10-year-old brand, has teamed up with Namrata Shah of 2Up 2Down, a textile designer in Bengaluru for the collection. The purpose is to reinvent old Japanese technique and adapt the colours and patterns to an urban context. With a palette of vibrant teal green, mysterious charcoal, playful and soft powder-blue and a deep rust and wine, this slow fashion line has about six styles. Look out for their Mallika Wrap Dress, Parka Dress, Dhoti Jumpsuit among others. Anaka says, “In terms of fabric my favourites are the black star clamp design used in the vapourised tunic and the brown steps clamp design used in the Kaftan.”

All the clamp textiles have been made using simple square and triangular blocks. It’s the folding technique that’s done with the fabric before it is sandwiched between the block, that has an impact on the final design. ” I’m working on a collection inspired by the patterns found in Kanjeeravam textiles. This will be launched in batches, from pre-Diwali up until December,” the designer informs us.
