  1. CHANGEMAKERS AT SUSTAINABLE FASHION DAY

Lakmé Fashion Week and IMG Reliance in collaboration with the United Nations in India hosted an action-oriented dialogue on the Northeast Region (NER). The dialogue opened the Sustainable Fashion Day, and was followed by a curated show featuring six sustainable fashion designers from six Northeast states. Several leading champions doing transformational work in sustainability were part of this very informative and interesting dialogue that was led by Yuri Afanasiev, Resident Coordinator, United Nations in India.

One of the panelists was Orsola De Castro, Founder and Creative Director of Fashion Revolution in UK, a global movement that works towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly fashion industry, campaigning for a systemic reform with a special focus on the need for transparency in the fashion supply chain. She spoke about the launch of a special initiative focused on the NER in collaboration with the British Council and IMG Reliance. The British Council’s global ‘Crafting Futures’ programme will be coming to India in collaboration with IMG Reliance and Fashion Revolution

Usha International, one of India’s leading manufacturers of sewing machines, fans and home appliances, launched their sustainable fashion label ‘Usha Silai’ in collaboration with IMG Reliance. The initiative aims to empower women in rural areas with skills and resources to create clothes and accessories that can be retailed in the urban fashion market.

In another fascinating show collaborating with Tencel™, Rajesh Pratap Singh came up with the amazing line “Tencel™ 1.0”, in a unique eco-collection. Tencel offers one of the most sustainable.

  1. 6DEGREE STUDIO WOWED THE AUDIENCE WITH POWERFUL FASHION PRESENTATIONS

The Princess Pea and Lovebirds art performance was thought-provoking and defined philosophies of beauty, appearances and genders in contemporary lifestyles through fashion. Princess Pea, who has worked as a visual artist for years evoked the thought “What about me if I only think of You?” through her unique fashion presentation.

Half Full Curve – The brand catering to curvaceous body types, presented at 6Degree Studio and promoted body positivity and self-love through the presentation of clothes that flattered all body frames. JioGarden in Bandra Kurla Complex welcomed all guests and fashion patrons with a vibrant and pulsating ambience. The venue set the stage for a promising season of LFW SR 2018, with its airy backdrop, coupled with a power-packed schedule of sequential shows.

While Lakmé Fashion Week has been a flagbearer for sustainable fashion for years, this season witnessed many new and thoughtful conversations. One such initiative was that this season all PET bottles from the Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018 venue were collected and used to make the R | Elan™ GreenGold fabric.

In another eco-friendly activity, the platform introduced TENCEL™, one of the world’s most sustainable fibres, which was used for the central installation and will be re-used by the manufacturer in the spirit of sustainability.

Additionally, every single invite from this season was made of recycled paper.
