It's an unusually warm January afternoon. A ray of sunshine refracts through our glass of Hefeweizen. One sip and we know this is the best beer for an afternoon like this. The crisp beer, with notes of ripe banana, got our afternoon started at the newly opened Biergarten in Koramangala.

Although this is the second outlet, after Whitefield, this brewery has its own distinct identity. It’s spread across two floors and designed to let in lots of sunlight. There’s also a special counter where regulars can lock their beer mugs for repeat visits. After a quick tour of the brewery, we sat down to sample the other brews — Red Ale, Smoked Dunked Weizen, Vienna Lager and Stout. We really liked the Red Ale. The bright red colour was pleasing to the eye and the fruity flavour was easy on the palate. The Smoked Dunked Weizen surprised us with its smoked bacon flavour.

Quick bites
We sampled the Mezze Platter, Rosemary Poutine French Fries, Medu Vada Pops, Lamb Seekh Kebabs, Peri Peri Chicken Tikka, Tequila Tangdi Kebab, Tandoori Fish Tikka and Chicken Tikka (Malai). The Mezze Platter was perfect for vegetarians with flavourful dips like Baba Ghanoush, Hummus, Tzatziki pairing well with the pita bread and feta crisps.

But we loved the Chicken Tikka (Malai) — succulent and juicy chicken marinated in almond and garlic paste. However, the platter of chutneys that was served along with the kebabs impressed us the most. The Chilli Mango Garlic Chutney, Raw Mango Chutney and Guava Chutne y are must - trys at Biergarten.

Oh dough!
With so much to munch on for starters, we weren’t keen on main course, but before we could proceed to the next dish, the chef sprung a surprise on us. A hot, fluffy, and aromatic, Sour Dough Garlic Bread was brought out straight from the oven. The texture was perfect, and the flavours of garlic and cheese were on-point.

From the desserts section, we recommend the Banana Cake Mousse and Tender Coconut Ice Cream. We especially loved the mousse. Made with jaggery, it had the distinct flavour of the sweetener and a silky smooth texture.

With its extensive food menu and some good brews, Biergarten is at a good location in Koramangala and definitely calls for another visit.
