Themed after Parisian cafes, the newly-opened, The Betta Life is a quaint little coffee shop located on the busy Residency Road. Those who frequent this road may have spotted the green-cream facade and its glass window with warm lighting. From the outside, it appears large, but when we dropped by for coffee on a Sunday evening, we realised how tiny this cafe is. However, the owners — Vishal Sivappa, Akilesh Basapa and Sujith Mathew Koshy — have designed it intelligently with enough space for three tables, and a coffee-snack bar.
On offer are hot and cold brews that include Espresso, Macchiato, Cafe Americano, Filter Coffee, Iced Latte, Iced Mocha and Iced Cappuccino. “All our coffee is sourced from plantations in Coorg that are owned by my partners. One of the estates is called Bettagiri Estate, and ‘betta’ is ‘hill’ in Kannada, so that’s the connect to the name ,” explained Sujith, when we paid the cafe a visit.
Quick bites
While the menu is limited, it’s well curated. We chose to sample their Espresso and Filter Coffee. Both blends are totally unmissable. The filter coffee was brewed fresh and the aroma filled the 300 sq ft space. Just a sip and we were convinced that this is one of the best coffees in Bengaluru.
Sugar high
We then tried heir best-selling Chocolate Insert Mousse Dome. The airy and light mousse paired well with the filter coffee, and the chocolate insert in the mousse added the right amount of sweetness. We also tried the Lemon Cello Tea Cake with the Espresso shot. The lemon flavours, and the fluffy texture of the tea cake were perfect.
The Betta Life also serves sandwiches like Pulled Pork, Chicken Mayo, Bacon, Egg and Cheese, Tuna, and Paneer. In addition to what they serve, the coffee shop also retails organic honey that’s extracted in Coorg, The Betta Life coffee beans and powder, and Bacon Relish.
