The Brewhive, Kolkata guarantees quality time over fusion food and crafted drinks
SOME places thrive on simplicity. The Brewhive is one such place, in the tech hub of the city — Sector V. If you’re looking to spend some quality time with friends without the distraction of live performances or commotion of the gaming zone, then this 5,500 sq ft eatery is where you should be.
A 16ft bar greets us as we enter the 165-seater micro-brewery, which is yet to get its license. Under the grip of IPL fever, all five big screens played the live match between KKR and CSK, and everyone had a munching platter on their table. The strength of the restobar lies in its food, we are informed. We couldn’t agree more. Chef Bimal’s fare impressed us from the very first bite. The crispy sugar-dusted churros, served with caramel and chocolate dips, were a great way to get a peek into the delectable menu, which offers a mix of traditional and fusion food.
As we made ourselves comfortable on the swing chair, a table that’s a favourite among patrons, a couple of refreshing drinks arrived in their best forms. The Caramelised Sangria with a Twist of Jamaica, served with grilled cubes of fruits, was an experience in itself. For those who swear by coffee, it’s hard not to become a fan of Heart Healthy Frothy Charcoal and Cinnamon drink. The distinct taste of coffee in this cocktail makes you yearn for more. Owners Abhinav Jaiswal and Vijyant Shah have tall plans for their new venture. As they put it, “The Brewhive is a work of complete passion. Food is one of our strong points, and very soon, we will be rolling out a new menu which will further surprise our customers. Once our microbrewery starts, we can offer more in terms of beverages to our loyalists, and we can’t wait for that.”
The bite-size surprise named Tangy and Chilli Shrimp on toasted bread, was flavourful. The crispy base with spicy, succulent shrimp on top is a must-try. The Brewhive also has great combo deals for the office crowd, and we were mighty impressed with the variety on the platter. Eight different bites on a platter is good value for money. We even sampled the Grilled Chicken with Mashed potatoes, and the striking notes of herbs on the soft slices of chicken breast played well on our taste buds.
