Pallimukku-based Arippa was quick to get into the good books of Kochi’s gourmands for their take on naadan cuisine. A year and a half after breaking into the market, they’ve launched a second endeavour—a 24-cover cold beverage hub. As different from counter-service outlets, the 400 sqft Kummattikka Juice has a rustic ambience with faux mud walls and retro lamps.

“We wanted to create a cafe vibe and serve diverse flavours ranging from a nostalgic masala soda and chilled palada payasam to drinks loaded with foreign fruits like avocado,” says owner Nitish Narayan, who just represented Kerala at Mumbai-based LF91 Heritage Food Festival. Here are some of our suggestions from among their juices, shakes, ice creams and mocktails.

Mudberry

A sight in itself, this one comes with a crown of sliced fruits like apples, banana and guava. The creamy drink is a mango shake infused with strawberry crush, which leaves a mild yet lasting sweetness. The surprise element here is pomegranate arils that find their way up the straw.

Avil Milk
Be ready to be reminded of school days with this blend. The glass holds the traditional flattened rice flakes (avil) and banana combo. It is topped with a scoop of ice cream, big peanuts, and tutti frutti.

Tender coconut-dry fruits
Rather plain on the outlook, this concoction should not be underestimated. The very thick and moderately sweet tender coconut drink is rich with dry fruits such as dates, cashew, fig and almonds.

Oreo Nutella roll
A ‘noisy’ sensation in the city—due to the racket created by the Teppanyaki-style spatulas—the rolled ice cream finds a place on their menu too. We chose the one with minute granules of ground Oreo cookies, cream, and Nutella.
