Camac Street is the new address for craft beers in the city. Scrapyard, a bar and kitchen and now brewery, spread across 7,000 sq ft over two floors, launched its microbrewery last Saturday — making drinking beer more fun and flavourful. “Though we started Scrapyard in 2017, our brewery license took time to come. We realised that people look for quality things and though the market of craft beer is still emerging in the city, it has a long way to go,” said Rohit Ojha, one of the two partners of Scrapyard.

Brew it on!

We sat on the 11th floor of the lounge bar on the rooftop that has glass walls overlooking the twinkling horizon of the cityscape in the evening. The large shiny tanks in the brewery prepare five different kinds of beers. Stationed just beside the bar, the beers have been named after the city’s iconic landmarks. Sample Victorian (Belgian Strong Ale); Taxi Dubbel (Belgian Dubbel ); Eden (Mosaic Pale Ale); Tramweizen  (Hefewizen) and Hastings Ale (Blonde Ale). From mild to strong to even fruity, the five variants are refreshing for summer afternoons. We sampled all the five brews, and loved three of them for their distinct characters. The deep reddish-copper Taxi Dubbel is complex Trappish ale with rich malty dark flavours, suited for the ones, who like their beer strong. Eden, a slightly bitter version, is brewed with 100 per cent pale ale malt from Germany. The subtle aroma of raw mangoes in it made it to our list of must-tries. Victoria, with its pale and effervescent hoppy notes, is for those who prefer less bitter ones. “We are bringing some non-conformist beers on the table, and I am sure people will appreciate that. Among the lot, Eden is our signature beer that has a special hop mosaic, which cannot be found elsewhere in the city. It’s bitter, but it’s good bitter,” offered master brewer Ishan Grover, who also informed us that the beer experience will reach greater heights at Scrapyard, with many more variants and innovations on the anvil.
