High-end smartphones in 2020 to feature 10x optical zoom
Oppo had promised a smartphone with 10x optical zoom earlier this year, but only released one with 10x hybrid zoom.
As 2019 comes to an end, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reportedly stated in a research note that 10x optical zoom will play an important role in high-end smartphones in the coming year.
The analyst also added that enhanced optical zoom will extend to more high-end smartphones. However, there was no specification if that includes iPhone, which reportedly now maxes out at 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom.
In the note, Kuo reportedly said the P40 Pro will have a redesigned periscope telephoto lens featured on its rear camera setup. The device is expected to make its debut in the market during the first half of 2020.
Meanwhile, Oppo had promised a smartphone with 10x optical zoom earlier this year, but only released one with 10x hybrid zoom.
Kuo recently claimed that Apple may launch four 5G-enabled iPhones next year. 5G components are projected to raise the production cost of the new iPhones by anywhere from $30 to $100.
