Our guide to NYE parties in Kochi
IF you’re not too keen on staying on the dance floor all night on December 31st, then we’ve got just the thing for you. Before the fireworks light up the sky and the final countdown begins, indulge in a sumptuous year-end meal. Many prime luxury properties in Kochi invite you to welcome 2018 with them and promise to keep their lavish multi-cuisine spread open, till the clock strikes 12. We find out about the special desserts, delectable libations, live counters, and global delicacies, you shouldn’t miss on NYE.
The Gateway Hotel
With 30-plus delights on their dessert counter alone, the Bubble Cafe at this Taj establishment offers an extended dinner experience. While DJ Savyo entertains guests who opt for this Bollywood music gala, gourmands can sample some exquisite dishes prepared by chef Salin Kumar’s squad. This includes mint-melon gazpacho shooters, honey-glazed leg of pork with balsamic pineapples and potato wedges, smoked ham from the charcuterie counter, and poki uramaki sushi.
One of the most popular watering holes in the city, Ava Lounge is a great place ‘to forget the old and relish the new’. If getting your face painted and grooving to the tunes of Brazilian DJ Luane while sipping on 18-year-old single malts is not your thing, then check out their NYE special spread. From thin xic fish and chooza makhani to pork koorka and plum cake soaked in brandy sauce, there’s something for everyone.
For a themed NYE experience head to this property within Lulu Mall’s expansive campus. Escabeche, oxtail ravioli, beef wellington, chicken chaps, and chablis-marinated salmon, are some of our recommendations for those dining at Kochi Kitchen or Cassava. Be sure to dabble in their meaty teppanyaki specials, while DJ Craig spins the hottest tunes within their poolside venue. We don’t really understand why their Russian honey cake is part of the Miami-to-Ibiza themed party, but it’s one sweet treat you have to try.
Thinking of shepherd’s pies, kariveppila kozhi roast, amri pulao, and paneer mappas? Then make your way to Willingdon Island on NYE. At the flagship hotel of the CGH Earth group, celebrity DJ Sekhar Menon will be in charge of the turntables. The Cochin Round Table, who are organising this poolside jamboree, have also set-up cabanas for those looking for the ultimate VIP/bottle-service experience. At this invite-only event all proceeds go to charity—so try and be generous when you whip out that chequebook.
