Book a bachelorette cooking experience with Shitija Nahata
IF YOU thought cooking was drudgery – Shitija Nahata’s food studio promises to change your mind. The two-week-old space in Alwarpet curates themed cooking experiences from kids parties to an English high tea session. “The idea is to cook and enjoy food as a part of an experience and not as a single dish,” says Shitija, owner and head-chef of the six-year-old brand, The Cupcake Company.
Predictably, her eponymous studio is “cupcakey” with pink and green pastel walls and debonair old-school furniture. On the versatility of the studio, Shitija shared,“Through the studio, we encourage participants to cook an entire spread in a social experience and enjoy it together.”
The possibilities in the studio are endless. “The cooking classes and workshops are merely an aspect of the studio. The concept of ‘food experiences’ transcends the basic conception of one person teaching how to cook and the participants learning it,” she adds, while sharing that she has hosted even a bachelorette party at the studio. “Once, a group of friends hired the studio to have a bachelorette party where the gang baked cupcakes which were prepped with naughty fondant decorations!”
Emphasising the ‘food’ in The Shitija Nahata Food Studio, she shares, “I realised that the desserts we sell in my outlets are confining my culinary abilities. The studio is also where my self-actualisation might be achieved.” The bigger picture includes plans of writing a cookbook and a second venture on the cards called The Dining Room, a private 10-seater dining space where she will design a special menu on a monthly basis.
The next class, Swirls and Ruffles, on cake decoration, is slated for June 24. Workshops are priced at Rs.2,500 and upward.
