The Bengaluru Baking Company at JW Marriott is known for its Red velvet cake, agreed on by experts to be the best in town. But we feel the bakery has loads more to offer when it comes to baked snacks and desserts, and the best way to experience it is through their high tea. Now, they have launched a new menu for the buffet style spread which we got a chance to sample.

They offer a wide selection of teas to choose from — Earl Grey, Chamomile, Peppermint and of course, the Indian staple, Masala chai. For sultry summer days, try their refreshing and fruity iced tea. If you are more of a coffee person, fret not, they also have cappuccinos Americano and lattes.

Short eats
While, earlier, the high tea was limited to only Indian snacks, now they have taken a more international approach to the spread. There is a mix of Indian and global favourites and includes both indulgent as well as lean options.

We started with the local favourites, which are on rotation every week. We had a chance to try their Samosas and Chicken kathi rolls. Served with sweet and spicy chutneys, these will surely hit the spot with your cup of tea. Next in the spread were three types of nachos — salted, oregano and chili. The dips are what stole the show though — silky sour cream and freshly made salsa.

What’s tea without some finger sandwiches? Wrapped up in stringed parcels, one can choose from the Tomato and cucumber sandwich and the Ham and cheese sandwich. If you think all these are too high on calories, opt for their mezze dishes — Baba ganoush, Hummus and Fattoush, all served with pita bread.
And seeing that we had ordered English breakfast tea we had to have the scones. Served with cream and fresh blueberry compote, it was the perfect accompaniment to our drink.

Sweet nothings
As mentioned, the BBC is known for their desserts, and the high tea is the best place to try them all in one sitting. We tried and loved the chocolate cupcake — picture perfect with a big swirl of icing and delicious at the same time. But the moist Banana cake was what stole our hearts — a must-try for lovers of the fruit. Other options were the Walnut brownie, Pine-apple delight and the Chocolate roll.  Coupled with their roomy ambiance and newly introduced sheesha options, the BBC high tea is a fine way to spend an afternoon in the city.
