BISTRO Claytopia is familiar to cafe lovers in Bengaluru for their unique pottery concept. Guests dining at the cafe can paint a cup or pot and the cafe will glaze and bake it in their kiln. Now, the cafe, after a brief hiatus, has reopened in Koramangala with a new focus on food and dining. “We have retained the kiln and the pottery activities,” says Syed Ameen Hussain, one of the partners of the cafe, adding, “But we have really expanded the menu. Guests can find the familiarity of the old cafe, but now with much more choice.” Among the first things we see on the menu is the elaborate breakfast section. “We have breakfast from 8.30 am to 11 am,” he adds as we sit down for our meal. The Bistro Heavenly Rolls are eggs stuffed with more eggs, cottage cheese and salami served with a side of baked potatoes, hash brown and sauteed vegetables. They also have classics such as Chocolate Chip Pancakes, French Toast, Full English Breakfast and Shakshuka. Pair it with their Strawberry or Kiwi flavoured Jelly Seed Shakes, we suggest.

They also aim to focus on health and wellness, hence the menu includes a section titled ‘Go Healthy Noodle Soups.’ From this section, we recommend the Assorted Wild Mushroom Soup. With noodles, assorted mushrooms, bean sprouts, gherkins, carrot, sesame, pakchoi and spring onions, this one packs quite a punch when it comes to flavour. “Earlier, the main course was limited to dishes such as burgers and sandwiches,” says Rafiuddin Ameen, the other partner of the cafe, adding, “Now we have added many pan-Asian and Italian options.”

Their appetisers consist of options such as Spicy Sesame Baby Corn, Basil Pesto Cottage Cheese and Butterfly Prawns. We sampled the Hot Pot. Stir fried vegetables in a spicy Hunan sauce served with fried rice, herbed potatoes and steamed vegetables. The spicy sauce complemented the rice and the potatoes well. Next, we tried their Alfredo Pasta. Although nothing out of the ordinary, the dish was creamy and comforting. Thin crust pizzas are our weakness so next we opted for the Veggie Exotic Pizza. Topped with bell peppers, onions, olives, tomatoes and jalapenos, this is a must-try for veggie lovers. When it comes to dessert, the cafe has options like Brownies, Banana Walnut Tea Cake and Red Velvet Cake. But we suggest you either have their Mississippi Mud Pie or a slice of warm Apple Pie. Located in a bustling corner of Koramangala with a spacious open air setting and with a loyal customerbase, we think this new  avatar of Bistro Claytopia will be as popular as ever.
