A leg of raan (lamb) marinated for 18 hours in a special masala and slow cooked over coals. A beetroot halwa between courses to refresh your palate. A succulent Russian cutlet with a chicken-in-white sauce stuffing, maybe? All this and more is what Mumbai’s fastest growing ‘unrestaurant’ experience has to offer in a specially curated pop up at Ashvita Bistro this weekend.

The brainchild of Munaf Kapadia, who quit a lucrative job at Google, The Bohri Kitchen (TBK) was started about two years ago in Mumbai. Munaf,  who also identifies as the Chief Eating Officer (CEO) of the company claims that he took advantage of the fact that his mother was a fantastic cook and her ‘natural mother-instinct’ of feeding people, to begin the company, which started off with offering nine of the Kapadia family’s friends a home dining experience. Since its inception, TBK has catered to a number of clients including celebrities, the most recent one being a Bohri meal for Hrithik Roshan’s birthday in January.

But the kitchen did have a testing phase in Chennai, back in 2015,  “Where our food was well-received and my mother personally made all the dishes we served.” recalls Munaf, who was recently featured in the Forbes 30 under 30 list in 2017. This time, he adds,  “There is a more standardised system in place and the menu too is elaborate.”

The seven course menu in Chennai will feature kharaas (savoury dishes) like the Russian chicken cutlets , meethas (sweet dishes) like the beetroot halwa (also a palate cleanser), pre jaman course featuring their signature raan in red masala and jaman (main course) with an ‘incredibly’ dum biryani, in addition to condiments like a pineapple boondi raita and kokum aloo.

From March 23 to 25, lunch and dinner. Meal for one : Rs 1,799.
