Friday Release, a blockbuster combination of food and cinema at Salt Lake, Kolkata
A ticket counter, resembling the Box Office of a movie theatre, welcomes you at the entry. Big posters of yesteryear Bolly stars and movies adorn the walls. As you enter the city’s novel, Bollywood themed restaurant, Friday Release in Salt Lake, you are indeed transported to the world of Hindi cinema.
The 66-seater, cosy diner spread across 1,440 sqft is divided into three sections – Hum Saath Saath Hain, Andaz Apna Apna and Private Party. Hum Saath Saath Hain is the largest dining area, where families or large gatherings can have a good time. Andaz Apna Apna is a zone that is separated from the main area by crystal danglers and is targeted mainly at the youngsters and Private Party is a PDR zone separated from the main area by a red velvet curtain.
The overarching theme has been kept retro in style with classic film posters on all the walls. To add to the mood, there are vanity mirrors with make-up lights on one wall, while cinema reels embellishes the other. To complete the colourful look, the chairs have been done in shades of vibrant blue and canary yellow.
“Our love for cinema is never-ending. Thus we have come up with this concept, where any cine lover can come and have a great time hanging around. Here we aspire to merge love of good food with taste in good cinema,” says Supratik Ghosh, the managing head of the eatery.
The USP of the cuisine is Indian street food with a twist, besides the regular fare of Mughlai, continental and Chinese dishes. Vegetarian delicacies include Bhelpuri Shots, Jeera Mozzarella Paranthe, Dahi ke Kebab, Mushroom Galouti, Dal Chawal Aranchini among others. Mozzarella Filled Tangri Kebab, Elaichi Mutton, Irani Keema Pao, Desi Chicken Wrap are the highlights of the non-vegetarian section.
There is also an international section in the street food menu, which includes classic pasta dishes, risottos and other continental savouries. Another unique feature of the menu is the ‘Friday Special’ section, where a handful of new delectable recipes from the Chef's kitchen will be available every Friday.
