The newest restaurant to open doors in Indira Nagar, Urban Tamasha, offers an elaborate menu that includes dishes from North Indian, Asian to Continental cuisines. We dropped by on a Sunday afternoon for a leisurely meal. Colourful ceiling lamps and complementary wooden interiors and upholstery give the dining area a pleasant look and feel. A corner table with a view of 100 Feet Road is where we opted
to sit. We started our meal with the Virgin Mojito and Mango Chill. Both drinks were perfect for the afternoon, but the mojito was a tad bit sweet. It was the Mango Chill that impressed us with the perfect blend of mango juice with peach puree, fresh basil, cream and toasted cashews. The basil balanced the sweetness, while the toasted cashews added a nutty flavour.

From the vegetarian starters, it was the Dahi Kebab that is worth a try. Made with hung curd they are dusted with poppy seeds, and just crumble in your mouth. The Paneer Sunehri Kebab is grilled paneer at its best. Nothing unusual except that the paneer was grilled well. But the Stuffed Mushroom Walnut was quite exciting. Tiny mushrooms filled with a mix of cheese, walnuts, grated cottage cheese and chilli flakes  — this certainly created some drama with so many different textures and flavours.

Next, we were served two chicken dishes — Chicken Makmali and Chicken Banjara. The red chilli marination and perfectly smoked pieces make the Banjara a must-try. The Makmali is for those who like a subtle, creamy flavour. The Mutton Galouti Kebab on mini parathas was served next. The spicy kebabs with a velvety texture complement the soft parathas quite well.

From the main course, we recommend the Tawa Paneer Exotic Gravy and Bhoona Ghosht. The Tawa Paneer is essentially paneer patties sauteed in a tomato-based gravy. It is best eaten with the stuffed kulcha. The Bhoona Ghosht is tender mutton pieces cooked in a green chilli and pepper paste. This pan-fried mutton dish is too hot for people with mild palates. But do pair it with a plain naan to enjoy the exotic flavours.

At the end of such an interesting meal, we opted to try the Caramel Custard and Toffee Walnut with Vanilla Ice Cream. The Caramel Custard was just perfect. But the walnut dessert was our favourite as it featured crunchy toasted walnuts coated with toffee and sesame seeds with vanilla ice cream. With delicious food and a comforting ambience, Urban Tamasha is making a sincere attempt to serve classics with a twist to offer something out of the ordinary.
