Actress Aishwariyaa launches her brand of organic soaps
Au naturale rose milk or lavender soap with sun-dried rose petals full of organic goodness sans the harshness of parabens and sulfates – these are some of the promises offered by actress Aishwariyaa, daughter of famous yesteryear South actress Lakshmi, with her new brand of organic soaps. Featuring cruelty free soaps, face, hair and body products, she shares that she uses a host of natural ingredients like sandalwood, essential oils like jasmine, vanilla, fresh spearmint and so on which occupy pride of place in her Spring/Summer collection, while “leaving you feeling and smelling fresh”.
However, in recent years, where there has been a significant increase in organic products, one wonders how organic are these body washes, soaps and shampoos? “One does not usually read labels so carefully at the time of purchase; at times so-called organic soaps have Sodium Hydroxide in them, the same chemical used in our drain cloggers and washing powders. Who would want any such thing to touch our face,” says the Chennai-based actress who has been receiving a steady number of orders on her Facebook page. Expect a variety of fragrances from lemongrass to rosemary and other ingredients. “These ingredients are 100 per cent organic and are shipped from around the world from companies that sell vegetable-based extracts,” she adds. With her unit based in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, this 46-year-old has intensively researched on these ingredients and learned how to make soaps by watching videos online.
Close to nature
Currently working for ETV2’s Nandini Vs. Nandini, Aishwariyaa makes time to finish all her orders and even labels them herself. When asked about how she juggles acting and soap-making, she says, “It is absolutely my pleasure, not pressure. We have to be more in touch with our mother nature and switch to solutions such as homemade soaps.”
