With the right ingredients and a little insider know-how from chefs like Deva, who said your time in the kitchen can’t be all peaches and cream? 

Peach Kuchen

Ingredients                     QTY
White butter                 100 gms
Sugar                               55 gms
Salt                                   4 gms
Vanilla extract                 1 gm
Refined flour                 250 gms
Sliced peaches              150 gms
Icing sugar                        3 gms
Cinnamon powder            3 gms 
Baking powder                 6 gms
Eggs                                        2

Method
 ■ Pre-heat oven to 180°C, grease and dust the baking pan with refined flour

■ Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt and set aside

■ In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy

■ Beat the eggs, add vanilla extract and fold into the butter sugar mixture 

■ Make sweet dough by adding refined flour, eggs, sugar and pinch of salt. And place the dough in the tart shell. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.

■ Arrange peach slices in a spoke pattern over the dough. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon 

■ Bake in the pre-heated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown. 

Tips 
■  Peaches can be substituted with seasonal fruits like pear, green apple and mango. Berries are also a great option.
■  A lot of people skip the pre-heating of the oven before baking, but don’t.A warm oven helps creates a constant temperature, which means more even baking. 

If you’re wondering what the ‘kuchen’ means, it is the the German word for cake, and is used in other languages as the name for several different savoury or sweet desserts. In Germany it’s a tradition to invite friends for some coffee and Kuchen.
