Known as the ‘married guy’ within the comic fraternity in India, Amit Tandon is among the top comedians in the country. A journey that started at an open mic event in September 2010 in Delhi, Tandon has completed more than 700 shows across three continents since. It was never too late for him to get into stand-up. “After two kids and one marriage, I realised it couldn’t get any worse and took to comedy,” he says, with a laugh.

The New Delhi-based comedian will be in town with his latest solo titled Honestly Speaking. About the show: “I am going to primarily speak about my life, the point of view of a guy who hails from a middle-class family, my struggles at home and outside and my personal favourite — my marriage,” he offers.

An alumnus of IIT Delhi, Tandon makes it look easy when it comes to his content and manages to keep things clean without any cuss words, which makes his shows accessible for all age groups. “I love speaking about marriage. It is the easiest topic anyone can get. It just keeps getting better as you pass every year of your married life. There are different layers that you and your partner discover and that is unlimited material right there for your script (laughs). The first year is different for both of you, as you need to suddenly share everything with each other, and the second year, there is external pressure from your family to have kids and then there comes a phase where there is no romance left. Now if I take my wife out for a dinner, she suspects if I have a meeting or a show coming up in Bangkok,” he says with a smile.

Amit Tandon will perform at Phoenix Market City, Velachery on April 29 from 7 pm onwards. Tickets at Rs 500 on in.bookmyshow.com
