Pop-up market to celebrate designers who create customised products

While the recent flea markets in the city aimed at creating an opening for independent entrepreneurs, event management couple Praveen V P and Reshmi Praveen believe that they have effective ways to make it more affordable for the sellers.Boasting the experience of hosting performance events since 2002 through their Symphony Entertainments, these 30-somethings  organise a two-day lifestyle expo named Second City.
“Though many people living in Kochi have their favourite hangouts in blingy malls, we want to remind them of alternate shopping/fun spaces,” explains Praveen, about the intriguing name for their event. With over 30 vendors on their list—90 per cent are from within the city—they have some unique options on offer.

Crafting fun
More than a ‘shop and go’ destination, the couple has carefully chosen sellers who focus on creating customised goods. “Our space will be a cosy location where shoppers will get to acquaint themselves with the city’s creative entrepreneurs who do not have brick and mortar stores,” says Praveen. As fashion takes the major ground, expect bespoke traditional handmade jewellery brands like Mika Kreations by Manjusha Radhakrishan and mural painted textile from Edappally-based Saarank. Kalamkari printed Kerala saris and silk thread jewellery willalso be available at the venue.

Adding colour
Besides women’s couture, stalls from the likes of Singapore-based cleaning  robot manufacturers iClebo will make the grounds interesting. While most pop-ups feature musicians, Second City brings in Thiruvananthapuram-based art gallery Lemon Yellow. The fete  vibe will  be further boosted by the presence of city’s tattoo studio V2 and  Mehendi designs from Gujarati settler Khyati Shah. “Most pop-ups rope in pizzerias and burger outlets, but we want to serve naadan delicacies from across Kerala. People can look forward to sampling dishes like podimeen kumbil curry and kozhi rasam soup at the venue,” informs the organiser, who is already planning on an exclusive expo for women in near future.

On August 12 - 13.
