Childhood nostalgia: Chandamama's children's stories available for free online

Chandamama was a monthly children's magazine that published fables, mythology and countless other stories, stringing them together with beautiful illustrations and common moral themes. The magazine was first printed in Telugu and Tamil, but then expanded to printing in twelve total Indian languages as well as English.

Even though the magazine has stopped printing since the early 2000s, the website has begun uploading their original editions online, all available for free download. For now, the online editions include versions in English, Telugu and Hindi, but the website has made a note that they plan to include Sanskrit, Assamese, Oriya, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali and Tamil soon enough.

All the editions are authentic, preserving a piece of history. The stories draw from several Indian texts, both modern and historical. And the beautiful illustrations paired with the stories have many different styles to match the wide range of tales.

For those that read the stories as a child, the website is bound to bring a strong wave of nostalgia. But the stories are engaging even for those that didn't, or weren't even born yet, and they are surely something that can be passed down to the little ones of today.
