Cheeky one-liners, raucous laughter and humour at its best. TLC India's Queens of Comedy is a platform for female comics who are on the lookout for the country's funniest female comedian. Representing Chennai at Queens of Comedy are Niveditha Prakasam and Saadiya Ali. Here's what they had to say about their experiences
Best part about being from Chennai at the show?
Niveditha: You usually need to have a good opening to your set so the audience likes you, all I had to do was speak a little Hindi ... Easy. It was hilarious, and I didn't even have to write jokes.
Saadiya: Being a Chennai represent! Destroying the stereotypes that we're too uptight and boring. Spreading the dosa love across the nation and the best part; teaching non-Tamil speakers the brilliance of words like macha and yerumae maadu.
Favourite comics you've met so far?
Niveditha: This is like asking me to choose between my children. I can't name them because the rest will feel bad, and I want all of them to like me.
Saadiya: I totally fangirled over Biswa Kalyan Rath. And Kaneez Surka. We had a workshop with her and I would definitely put that in my "coolest things in life" list.
What is your comedy style like?
Niveditha: Funny. I hope.
Saadiya: I really enjoy doing theatrical sets. I like using the space around me and sort of helping create visuals. And thanks to this show I realized my love for Improv. I'm more of the high-energy kind, I guess.
How do you think participating in this show will change things around for you locally?
Niveditha: Five more comics here will know who I am, and I may get an extra spot at an open mic for a week.
Saadiya: It has definitely changed me personally on another level. Locally I don't really know yet. But some friends were sweet enough to send encouraging messages.
