Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), Mumbai has been a pioneer in establishing innovative methods of sustainable development in the airport and aviation space.

In the age of global warming and unbalanced equipoise of our ecological system, look at these five reasons why CSMIA promises us with hope for a better future this World Environment Day -

CSMIA became the proud recipient of Level 3+ Carbon Neutrality
The airport in its journey towards carbon neutrality was certified by Airports Council International (ACI), the global authority of international airports, in May 2017.

CSMIA has achieved this highest ACA level of Neutrality in recognition of its GHG management initiatives with greater awareness and sensitisation of the stakeholders towards the airport industry’s response to the challenge of climate change.

The only Indian airport to publish a sustainability report
Yes, that’s right. Our airport acknowledges the future of our generation and goes beyond mere mitigation to encompass a value creation for all stakeholders.

The report highlights our performance across a triple bottom line of Environment, Economic & Social parameters to create a culture governed by sustainable development.

3,205 kWp capacity of solar power plant installed and more under process
The total renewable energy used by the airport increased by 200% and helped generate a threefold increase in total energy output without relying on other sources.

Green infrastructure for a sustainable development
Terminal T2 has been meticulously designed to have the state of the art infrastructure with a low environmental footprint.

In 2016, the integrated terminal T2 was awarded the prestigious ‘Platinum’ rating by IGBC becoming the first Indian airport to hold this rating within the existing building rating system.

There’s a system in place for everything, literally
Be it emissions, noise, water, air quality or even waste management, Mumbai International Airport has checked all the boxes in maintaining and monitoring a proper system.

The  Organic Waste Converter (OWC) as part of its waste management system recycled close to 3,343.16 MT of non-hazardous waste from 2016-2018 while generating 1 MT of compost everyday day.

Simultaneously, the Green Seal initiative provides an alternative with waterless urinals reducing water wastage amongst other initiatives all stands testimonial to that.
