South Indian actors who have made it to Hollywood

South Indian star Dhanush is making his debut in Hollywood with The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir. The movie is based on the best-selling novel ‘The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe’ by French author Romain Puertolas, the film has Dhanush playing a street magician, Ajatashatru Lavash Patel.

While the news of Dhanush's latest is making it to headlines, here we look back at the south Indian actors who debuted or are soon to maket their debut in Hollywood.

Poorna Jagannathan is a is a series regular on the HBO series The Night Of (2016). Jagannathan rose to prominence in India after starring in the Bollywood film Delhi Belly (2011) opposite Imran Khan. She will also be seen in the third season of the Netflix series, House of Cards (2013).


Pooja Kumar


Pooja Kumar, former Miss India USA, has acted in major Hollywood films, including Man on a Ledge (2012), and the IFC film, Bollywood Hero (2009) where she starred opposite SNL star, Chris Kattan. She had in a starring role in iconic Indian actor and filmmaker Kamal Haasan's blockbuster film Vishwaroopam (2013).


Tabu


Tabu, who was last seen in Haider, got her chance to work in Hollywood twice. Both of the films she worked were based on novels of the same name, Namesake and Life of Pi. She played the role of a mother in both and worked alongside Irrfan Khan.


Rajinikanth


In 1988, Rajinikanth was a part of small American film, Bloodstone, that was co-produced by tennis legend Ashok Amritraj. The movie was an action adventure movie with a light tone, that starred Brett Stimely and Anna Nicholas in the lead, playing a couple honeymooning in India who gets trapped in a quest to find a rare gem, the titular Bloodstone


Napoleon


Actor Napoleon will soon be seen in the Hollywood movie, Devil's Night: Dawn Of The Nain Rouge, directed by Sam Logan Khalegi, who has an Emmy nomination to his credit. 


Aishwarya Rai


Aishwarya's big break in Hollywood came in 2007 when she appeared in The Last Legion with actors like Ben Kingsley and Colin Firth. She was soon seen again in the Steve Martin-starrer, The Pink Panther 2 as a villain. She has also acted in movies such as Bride and Prejudice and The Mistress of Spices
