Veteran actor Nana Patekar spoke out against the threats and abuse of Deepika Padukone, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the rest of the Padmavati team, saying that it doesn't make sense to comment on the content of the film before it is released.

He said, "Padmavati has not released yet. You don't know what has been shown in the film. I don't want to get into this, but what I believe is that giving threats to Deepika and Bhansali is wrong and unacceptable."

The film has been deferred indefinitely from its original December 1st release date on the basis that the film distorts facts. The controversy is largely based on a rumoured romantic sequence between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji, despite the fact that director Bhansali has refuted its existence.
