Oxana Srikanth's RaINspiration encourages you to find beauty in the world
Updated on

In a world of chaos, where we’re relentlessly bombarded by circumstances and events that are often beyond our control, RaINspiration, a curated photography exhibition creates an immersive space that encourages you to take a step back and simply be present. At a time when it can feel impossible to find a moment of quiet, the showcase offers you a space to reconnect with things that brings you peace.

Through her work, Kazakhstan-born multidisciplinary artiste Oxana Srikanth captures moments of stillness, highlighting the beauty of rain through an empathetic and observant approach. While the main part of the exhibition consists of photographs from various seasons, it also features a selection of abstract works and street photography. Ahead of the showcase, Oxana spoke to Indulge about the significance of her work and what draws her to rain.

Q

What ties the photographs in this exhibition together? Can you tell us about the themes and what compelled you to focus on them.

A

The theme of the exhibition is The inspiration of rain. Rain has always been a source of inspiration for me. With rain on a sunny day, I want to sing and dance. On a gloomy and cold rainy day, I feel inspired to work on craft projects, poetry, music, and invent stories. Ideas race through my head as if hurrying to catch up with the raindrops. In recent years, photography has also been added to this creative impulse. For me, photography is a fine art. Through photography, I try to create pictures that an artist could have painted.

Q

How was this exhibit put together?

A

The main part of the exhibition consists of photographs from various rainy seasons with a focus on the beauty of nature. The exhibition also includes pieces that verge on abstract form and a few fragments of street photography. Droplets, reflections, the dance of wind and rain, and the play of natural and artificial light are all intertwined and woven into the fabric of the exhibit.

Q

Is there a photograph here with a story that stands out?

A

I like to believe that at this exhibition, everyone will find a photograph — or perhaps a few — with which they feel a connection. For me, it is the image of a boy standing in the rushing rainwater. His capacity to find joy in the elements, his open-heartedness, and his fearlessness both captivate and inspire, serving as a reminder that ‘strong ships are not conquered by the sea; they ride the waves!’
