Musings: An Insight Into Me: Kolkata-based clinical psychologist Pragati Sureka is healing people with poetry
Poetry is blessed with sublime power. The power to heal hearts, the power to move you. It can start a revolution and it can also conjure peace. Using this powerful tool Pragati Sureka, a clinical psychologist with over 15 years of practice, picks up the pen for better mental health. Indulge spoke with the practitioner before the official launch of her first collection of poems titled Musings: An Insight Into Me.
The effervescent therapist had no clue she could write until she was egged by a friend-cum mentor. “I would always keep scribbling lines here and there but it was Amita Sahay, the head of Poetry Federation in India who encouraged me to write more. And before I could realise I already had a collection ready which I could publish,” says Sureka who has penned down 100 poems in the book.
The themes stress on interpersonal relationships and complex emotions, all in a very lucid flow, and that’s the USP of Sureka’s poetic pen. Its non-preachy approach makes it very different from a self-help book. Also, the universal nature of the content will make you identify with the lines instantly. Categories on Relationships, Self-Development and Reflections and Bytes from Life will urge you to look inward to heal yourself.
The book, the optimistic therapist informs, is for the ones who have the courage to take responsibility to change their own lives themselves. Sureka is already planning to publish short stories for children.
