Independent musician Prateek Kuhad just returned from Madrid, the last leg of his Europe and US tour. Now with the four-city Winter Tour at Supermoon by Zee Live, the artiste shows no signs of slowing down. Although one would think Prateek’s mellow music is more suited to intimate gigs, he’s getting used to and enjoying these larger concerts too. “I’m a lot more comfortable with bigger venues now,” he confides to us in our interview.

The Winter Tour comes to Bengaluru this Friday. While the Delhi-based artiste doesn’t want to reveal the set list, he assures us fans are going to love it. “I want it to be a surprise,” he says, adding, “I will definitely be playing most of what I have released so far and especially the popular numbers. There will also be a few new songs as well — three or four songs that have not been released anywhere and no one has heard. These shows are going to be very special as I’m playing with a live five-piece band.”

Talking about popular numbers, one can’t ignore his breakthrough hit form 2018 cold/mess, that’s been dubbed the heartbreak anthem for millennials. Its success, in part thanks to the video starring Jim Sarbh and Zoya Hussain, was not even anticipated by Prateek himself. While his songs have always been personal, there has been a change in his writing process over the years. “It’s not just an emotional outlet for me anymore. It started as a cathartic exercise, but it’s a lot more about the process of making music for m e n ow, ” h e s ay s, a d d i n g , “Making good music has become a part of my personality and identity.”
