Childish Gambino became a worldwide hit in 2018 because of his song This Is America, which went viral because of its depiction of racial bias in America. The song, ever since, has had many different versions made out of it to suit the audience, but is still popular almost a year later.

On Sunday night, This Is America created history by becoming the first rap song to win the Song Of The Year award, however, it also went on to win the Record Of The Year. Interestingly, Childish Gambino’s song beat Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s Shallow and Drake’s God’s Plan, to take home the two prestigious awards of the year in the music community. While the Song Of The Year gives the award to songwriters, the Record of the Year is given to the best recording artist.

Grammy’s 2019 has also been plagued in controversy and Childish Gambino reportedly refused to perform after being invited by The Recording Academy. The Academy had also earlier been blamed for underrepresentation of Rap and Hip Hop artists in the major categories. However, while Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich said they are facing quite a problem in the hip-hop world, the win by Childish Gambino is said to help change the view.
