The story behind how Goa-based electronic music producer Anish Sood’s song Be Nice made it onto to The Black Eyed Peas’ new album is the stuff of dreams. Anish was in LA last year with musician Adam Friedman when they came up with the song. “All I really had was this funky synth sample and a drum loop. Adam really jumped onto it and put down the hook in no time. We then added some guitars and a recorded a bassline over that. I think we had everything done in about four hours,” shares Anish. Adam went on to then perform the track on the TV show Songland which gives a platform to newer musicians to showcase their work to celebrity judges. The judge on that episode was rapper will.i.am who then selected the song to be part of the upcoming The Black Eyed Peas album. “It feels amazing,” enthuses Anish.

The video for the song is shot in a rollerskating rink and has a retro feel to it. It also features rap legend Snoop Dogg. “Be Nice is about positivity and spreading change through the power of happiness. It is a very simple song and the idea all along was to put a smile on everyone’s face,” Anish tells us. While the original had more of an acoustic-funk vibe to it, The Black Eyed Peas lent it their signature synth-pop style and the final version is a mix of the two. Anish says they also plan to release the acoustic version soon.

“Most of us have grown up listening to The Black Eyed Peas and Snoop Dogg so it’s definitely a special feeling,” he shares. The artiste has a few upcoming projects in the pipeline that include a debut album, music videos, a live show and a digital platform for younger artistes.
