WITH TECHNO, ELECTRO and house music set on his scales, DJ Anish Sood has an unparallel stage presence. His original composition and the talent of blending different genres has made him a popular name at popular music festivals in India.

The self-taught Goan DJ, who has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, leaned heavily towards music, soon sidelining his run-of-the-mill career as an engineer.  Anish, who tells us out that DJ-ing chose him instead of the other way round says, “I grew up with lots of music in the house as my dad and uncle are jazz guitar players. Mechanical Engineering was a natural progression as I was always interested in the subject and was passionate about it. However, I pursued music side by side and started learning music production. One thing led to another and then I ultimately shifted focus a decade ago.”

Born and brought up in Goa, Anish believes his music is not influenced by the psychedelic trance genre that dominates the region. He says, “I have always been musically inspired by the sounds of Europe and house music coming out of Germany and the UK.” Goa, however, he points out, is the ultimate inspiration for music and culture.

Anish, firmly believes that the era of EDM is fading and people understand music more than before. “Techno has picked up a lot in India. People have filtered EDM as they understand music more which allows us to play deeper and underground set-ups,” says the beat doctor. He confesses that it was his opening act for David Guetta in 2012 that got him noticed and since then Anish has made a name for himself mixing music, producing it and also has several singles under his name.

Collaborating with American-Indian singer Lisa Mishra, Anish will be coming out with his new single Running Back To You, by late January or early February. He is also putting together a new concept called Sin City, adding a festive feel to clubs with extensive décor and special effects. That’s not all. He is also has a new show with live bands adding funk and disco to the act tonight!

He will be playing at Monkey Bar on November 29. Time: 9 pm to 2 am
