Meryl Streep has organized a protest against sexual harassment in Hollywood that encourages actresses to wear black for the Golden Globes, but Rose McGowan says that the silent protest is more hypocritical than beneficial.
Rose McGowan was one of the first victims to come forward against Harvey Weinstein and has since been an active leader in condemning sexual harassment, but she finds issue with Meryl Streep's silence regarding "Pig Monster" Weinstein in the past. In a tweet posted on Saturday, McGowan said, "Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @GoldenGlobes in a silent protest. YOUR SILENCE is THE problem. You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy. Maybe you should all wear Marchesa." Marchesa is a women's brand from Weinstein's ex-wife, Georgina Chapman.
The producer and director has been accused by over 70 women of sexual misconduct in stream of allegations that began in early October.
The black gown protest has been joined by over 30 actresses, as was reported on Thursday.
