Won’t settle for less pay because they have to compensate for a male actor: Deepika Padukone
Deepika said she is quite aware of the production costs involved and said that she wouldn’t want a penny if it is going to the film but if it is going to a male actor, she will not agree to it.
Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has always been known to be vocal about various topics and one of the most recent is the pay gap in the film industry. The actor said that she will definitely not settle for anything less than a male actor in the industry, because she knows how much she is worth and her films speak for themselves.
The actress who was last seen in Padmaavat incidentally received more money than her co-stars Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. In a recent interview, she went on to add that everybody in the industry knows how much a particular actor gets paid and why, and she is definitely not delusional. Deepika said it is not like she doesn’t know how much she delivers as compared to the Khan’s and the newer boys like Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor and Varun Dhawan. She is also quite aware of the production costs involved and said that she wouldn’t want a penny if it is going to the film but if it is going to a male actor, she will not agree to it.
Interestingly, Deepika has been on a break since Padmaavat released earlier this year, and it was reportedly because she was tying the knot with husband Ranveer Singh. The actor will be seen in an upcoming film called Chhapaak, in which she plays the lead role as an acid attack victim based on a true story.
