The Supreme Court, today stayed all criminal proceedings against Malayalam actress Priya Prakash Varrier for the famous 'wink song', from the upcoming Malayalam movie 'Oru Adaar Love'.

Certain religious groups from Maharashtra and Hyderabad had filed FIR against the movie director, the actress and the film producer claiming that the lyrics of the song Maanikya Malaraya Poove offended religious sentiments.

On Tuesday, the SC agreed to an urgent hearing of a petition by the actress who sought the quashing of FIRs lodged against her and film makers for the song.

Just two weeks after the release of the song on social media platforms, the song has notched up a record 34 million views. But soon, it turned serious as the 18-year-old actress found an FIR lodged against her and the filmmakers at Falaknuma police station in Hyderabad.

Two more FIRs - one by the secretary of Raza Academy with Mumbai Police and another by Janjagran Samithi at Jinsi police station in Maharashtra's Aurangabad made Priya Prakash Varrier, director Omar Abdul Wahab and producer Joseph Valakuzhy Eapen to move the SC.
