Outrage against AIB; Tanmay Bhat apologises for Utsav Chakraborty episode
Popular comedy group All India Bakchod’s (AIB) ex-member and stand –up comedian Utsav Chakraborty is all over the internet after he's been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. According to recent reports, an outrage against the comedy collective has started as it was revealed that the group continued to work with him even after Tanmay Bhatt, the co-founder of AIB came to know about the allegations.
The group, in a recent social media post, said that they made a big mistake and should have cut all ties with Utsav immediately.
While publishing their official apology, in a post captioned ‘We’re sorry’, the group explained how the confrontation between Tanmay and Utsav led to further harassment for the victim.
"By harassment, we meant that Utsav called up the person, cried, apologised, putting her in an uncomfortable position," the post read.
The post also said that since the person didn't wish to pursue legal action at that time, "out of respect for the person's privacy, nobody else at AIB was informed".
While responding to allegations, Utsav in a series of tweets wrote, "To be honest, from all accounts, I've been a piece of shit. And I will try to do everything I can work past that. There was no excuse. I know inconsiderate and entitled. Even in this narrative, when this whole thing started, I kept looking at myself as the victim."
Utsav, who has featured in numerous videos of the AIB, has been reportedly accused of sexual harassment on social media by several women.
As the tweets started to appear everywhere on the internet, AIB announced that all the videos featuring Chakraborty will be taken down.
Their post read: "We are also aware that by extending safe working spaces and a collaborative environment to people like Utsav, we have contributed towards a toxic environment that can be scary and unsafe for women. And so we are sorry for any part we may have played in the tolerance or furthering of such behavior."
