Sophie Turner is finally coming into her own in Game of Thrones Season 8, as Sansa Stark, the brave Lady of Winterfell. After the premiere of Episode 1, the 23-year-old in a recent interview on Phil In The Blanks, said that she had a tough time growing up and even suffered from mental issues after she received instant fame from the television series.
Sophie, who was 15-years-old at the time, said the mean comments and criticism about her character online got to her and said she believed everything they said. “Yeah, I am spotty. I am fat. I am a bad actress,' is what she constantly thought about. The actor said she made the costume department tighten her corset to look better because she got really self-conscious. The Game of Thrones actor said she even went through depression and didn’t have the motivation to do anything or even go out. Sophie said she didn’t even feel like meeting her friends and would just cry even when changing clothes.
The actress, who is set to get married to American singer Joe Jonas, said while she earlier said she wasn’t depressed, she used to actually think about suicide a lot but does not know why. Talking about it, Sophie said maybe it was a weird fascination she had but she is not quite sure she would have gone through with it in the end. However, she has taken help and undergone therapy and medication over the last few years and is quite happy with herself.
Sophie has returned for her role as Sansa Stark, from House of Stark, for the last season of the hit television series. Earlier, Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington opened up about different phases in their life including brain surgery while filming for the show, and even crying to a fan now that the show has ended.
