Megan Thee Stallion fans are worried following the rapper’s hospitalisation on Tuesday night after she was rushed to the hospital while performing in Moulin Rouge! The Musical. The 31-year-old rapper, who made history as the first female-identifying performer to play the role of Harold Zidler, was said to have become “very ill” while performing at the New York venue, the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
According to the WAP rapper’s publicist, the rapper was immediately taken to the hospital after she began displaying symptoms while performing in the play. “Her symptoms are currently being evaluated,” the publicist confirmed, adding that further updates will be provided as available.
The emergency led to a halt in the performance that evening. An audience member, Loren LoRosa, revealed on social media that Megan was present on stage for the opening scenes before the performance was halted mid-show. The audience was asked to stay seated by security, and the musical later resumed with an understudy playing Megan to bring the performance to a close.
The seriousness of the situation was also felt by Megan’s hairstylist, Kellon Deryck, who revealed on X that people need to say a prayer for the star, adding that he was with Megan at the hospital.
Her tightly controlled, eight-week-long engagement on Broadway started on March 24, and she was booked to perform through to May 17. Prior to her debut, Megan spoke enthusiastically about “the discipline and storytelling" necessary for a stage production, calling it an "absolute honour."
While the Hot Girl Summer host and Grammy Award-winning rapper is famous for her dynamic dance routines and rap music, playing Zidler, a part that culminates with a medley of her greatest hits, marked a new creative direction for the rapper. However, how this might impact the remainder of her engagement remains to be seen.
