A former member of popular hardcore punk rock band Turnstile is currently in serious trouble after a violent incident in Silver Spring. Ex-Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert, 33, was arrested yesterday on charges of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. He is currently in custody after he was denied bond by a judge in a district court.
According to charging documents, William Yates, who is 79 years old and the father of Turnstile lead singer Brendan Yates, was helping his daughter and grandchildren get out of their car Sunday. Then he sae Brady Ebert driving towards him with his horn blaring. The two men live down the street from each other.
William Yates approached the family with the intent of warning them when ex-Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert allegedly swerved his vehicle in his direction. William then threw a rock at the vehicle with the intent of getting Brady “away from his family so they could all get into the house.” Erin Gerber, the singer’s daughter, grabbed her 3-year-old son and dragged him onto the lawn in an attempt to avoid being hit.
Erin said that she asked Brady to stop. Then, he went into reverse, drive, accelerated, and struck them as he attempted to flee. Eruin proceeded to the front lawn and made a sharp turn towards Ms. Gerber and her son as he fled. William sustained "severe trauma to both of his legs," authorities said.
said that when he was on the ground, Brady Ebert came back and shouted that he ‘deserved it.’ The charging documents indicate that there was a history of run-ins between the ex-Turnstile guitarist and the Yates family. On March 13, Brady Ebert sped at them at a fast speed, showing the middle finger. A few days later, he shouted obscenities at Brendan Yates’ wife and a friend at their house.
The band explained, “After exhausting every available resource to assist his access to help and recovery, a boundary ultimately had to be set when healthy communication was no longer possible and he began threatening violence.” They further added, “We are grateful that Mr. Yates survived, has successfully undergone surgery, and we’re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery. We have no language left for Brady.”
