

Paresh Rawal's wife, Swaroop Sampat, started off in the entertainment industry by winning the title of Miss India in 1979 and representing India in Miss Universe. Later, Swaroop was seen working in Hindi movies and on television, but her career took a different turn when she went into teaching and research work.
Swaroop Sampat is the daughter of Bachu Sampat, a Gujarati theatre artiste. Her fascination for theatre began at university, where she performed in plays. Her first appearance in Bollywood movies was with Naram Garam in 1981. Other movies in which she starred include Nakhuda, Sawaal, and Himmatwala.
She found success on television with Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi in 1984. She was also part of the television serial Shanti. Post-marriage, she took a long gap from acting and moved towards education and academics.
Swaroop Sampat was introduced to actor Paresh Rawal at the theatre. It is said that Paresh Rawal was highly impressed by her and told his friend that he wished to marry her. He married Swaroop in 1975.
This relationship continued for 12 years before they got married in 1987. Paresh wished to build his career before marriage, whereas Swaroop was not ready to run away as she was the only daughter in her family. The couple have two children, Aditya Rawal and Aniruddh Rawal.
Swaroop Sampat resumed her studies after giving birth to her child. Swaroop first undertook studies in English literature before embarking on further research that led to her earning a PhD in Education from the University of Worcester in England. She graduated in 2006.
She published Learning Disabilities in a Nutshell: Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia in 2010.
Swaroop Sampat started doing workshops for teachers and children all across India. She made use of drama, games, songs, arts, and group activities as pedagogical tools. Her activities involved children from rural areas, underprivileged sections of society, and others. She was chosen by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, to lead an educational program for children.
