WATCH: Disney releases first-look of Will Smith as Genie in new Aladdin trailer
Disney finally released its newest trailer of Aladdin at Grammys 2019 while also giving a first look of the much-anticipated portrayal of Will Smith as Genie. Interestingly, this is the first time that Genie appears in the trailer of the live-action adaptation, the first trailer for which was released in October 2018.
The iconic character of Genie was played by the late Robin Williams, who had easily immortalised the Disney character. Will revealed that there will be a little less mimicking and there will be a major addition as he tries to address the hip-hop fan base, which he says has been around for quite some time in the Disney world. However, the portrayal of the character is receiving mixed responses from fans, as they say, they clearly prefer the old Genie because this is a little “too blue” for them. There were many others, who however, complimented the makers for doing their best version of a live-action Genie to suit the Disney audience.
