Oscar-winning director Ang Lee is teaming up with Will Smith, reportedly the only actor on the planet to star as the lead in eleven consecutive films that grossed over $150 million. They are backed by Jerry Bruckheimer, who has had a string of sci-fi hits in the 90s including Armageddon. The story revolves around an almost-retired assassin being targeted by his own clone!

Can such a title card result in a good sci-fi movie, a genre that, until recently, always ensured box office gold worldwide? Their upcoming film Gemini Man is truly unique, not just in terms of the groundbreaking visual effects used to make it. Reports suggest everything from 120 fps visuals to one of the hardest things to do in VFX—creating a completely digital younger Will Smith (not de-aged, as seen in Marvel movies nowadays).

The film is in the limelight once again due to its new trailer and featurette. The synopsis reads: “Gemini Man is an innovative action-thriller starring Will Smith (WillSmith) as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin, who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a mysterious young operative that seemingly can predict his every move. Also starring are Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen and Benedict Wong.”

Will Smith explains in a featurette, “What is so special about Gemini Man is that at the centre of it you have two characters played by one person across generations. I play both 50-year-old Henry and 23-year-old Junior, who is sent to kill him.”

The film releases worldwide on October 11.
