Two years after its release, this DC film is still trending. Despite the lukewarm responses it received at the box office, comic book fans now want to see the version of the film that Warner Bros studio didn’t want anyone to see.

During a Q&A with fans, Zack Snyder, who was initially the director of Justice League and was later replaced by Joss Whedon (of Avengers fame), unveiled that the studio didn’t want to shoot it as it was darker and grittier than they expected. “The original Justice League that Chris (Terrio) and I wrote, we didn’t even shoot...,” explained Snyder. He added, “The actual idea, the hard, hard idea, the scary idea, we never filmed because the studio was like 'That's crazy,'".

Truth is #ReleaseTheSnyderCut has been trending on and off for over a year. But, the online movement blew up when Hollywood mainstays and the biggest stars of the franchise—including Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa and Ben Affleck—started showing their support. Now, stars from the Marvel franchise like Simu Liu and Dave Bautista have joined the brigade. The most surprising addition to the bandwagon is Fantastic Four director Josh Tank.

What else do fans of DC’s superhero films have to wait for? Well, there’s Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) releasing on February next year. Then there’s the Amazonian princess’ Wonder Woman 1984, which is also slated for 2020 (June 5). The much-awaited Robert Pattinson debut as Batman in 2021 and next instalments of The Suicide Squad (2021) and Aquaman 2 (2022) are also in the works.
