Gearing up for Diwali in Chennai: a glimpse of the shopping frenzy and the hottest events from last week
Diwali frenzy took over the city this weekend with everyone rushing to multiple card parties and festive launches while still managing to do some shopping. Before we can even get to Diwali, I have to say Christmas came early at the InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort, where the mood was fun as we gathered for a cake mixing brunch. Kickstarting the festivities was the mixing of huge piles of succulent dried fruit and nuts along with copious amount of alcohol. We attempted some multitasking — capturing all of it on our phones while sipping on Bellinis. We may have had varying levels of success, but we had a blast in the attempt.
On the shopping front, the ladies had converged at Buva House for Alankrethaa’s Shopping fest, a fashion and lifestyle exhibition. Following the theme of many festive pop-ups, we saw a little bit of everything under one roof. Suma Harris did the honours and inaugurated the event. Meanwhile, at Amethyst Pause for a Cause was underway.
Also creating a stir with the ladies this week was the arrival of the Dyson Demo store at VR in Chennai. Having lovingly looked at their range of hairstyling gadgets online, dreaming of beautiful curls, the girls were thrilled to be able to finally get a first hands-on experience. Lending a helping hand was celebrity hairstylist Joline, transforming everyone's manes before their very eyes. She explained that with barely any practice and a few tips and tricks, salon ready hair could be recreated at home.
Finishing off the weekend was a performance by singer-songwriter Ananya Birla at Phoenix Market City, as part of her world tour. It was a power-packed performance that the young audience relentlessly recorded on their Instagram feeds. Those of us that missed it had serious FOMO. Ananya rocked the house from start to finish, making it an evening to remember. And of course, Happy Diwali folks!
