If you have ever cut a simple snowflake out of paper, you would be able to appreciate the intricate paper art that Australia-based artist Jeanie Ho deals with. Fusing her love for the paper craft with her search for comfortable statement jewellery, the 27-year-old recently unveiled her debut line of hand-cut paper jewellery in India via Etsy. “My main art practice has always dealt with paper cutting,” begins the fine art graduate from the Sydney College of the Arts. “I started making my own jewellery as a hobby...as a mental release from my daily art practice.” Made to order, her brand, Plucking Peonies, offers a range of earrings, from danglers to hoops and brooches.

Mainly working with floral motifs, the collection comes inspired by Jeanie’s globetrotting last year. Integrating the design of blooms like the plum blossom, the October flower and even peonies, each pattern was chosen based on a memory from her travel. “I initially started making the jewellery just for myself, but with the enquires that came flooding in, I began taking orders.”

Asymmetrical in design, each of the products are hand drawn on waterproof paper before being cut and then plated with sterling silver and assembled together. “Just the crafting alone, probably, takes anywhere between two-three hours for a pair of earrings. This excludes the design process and the product trial.”

While the triple floral statement hoop is one of the current favourites from the collection, another hot pick is the plum blossom cup danglers.
