Jewellery designer Divya Dasari has ditched silver to create a brand new multipurpose accessory collection in the yellow metal

Although the software-engineer-turned designer has mostly worked with silver until now, she recently realised that her designs look much better in gold and made the shift.

If you have been scouting for accessories for an upcoming wedding or a cocktail party, you might want to check out the Tarkshya Jewels by city-based jewellery designer, Divya Dasari. Although the software-engineer-turned designer has mostly worked with silver until now, she recently realised that her designs look much better in gold and made the shift. “Also the artisans I work with are way more skilled with gold than silver,” says the alumnus of Gemological Institute of America, New York.

The highlight of her new made-to-measure designs is that she is repurposing gold heirloom pieces to give them a contemporary spin. That’s not all. Most of her pieces are multi-purpose accessories that can be transformed given the occasion or the outfit. So one can expect a vaddanam that can also be worn as a statement neckpiece and earrings that might work as pendants as well. “This way, the heirloom pieces can also be more wearable instead of lying in the cupboard, gathering dust,” says the Hyderabadi, who is in her late twenties.

Apart from the wedding finery, some of her latest works also include lightweight kasu earpieces studded with navratna jewels and sleek bracelets in gold. If wearing a traditional outfit is on the cards, you can also check out gold jhumkas with motifs of goddess Lakshmi, studded with rubies and polki. She mostly works with coloured stones like emerald and rubies studded in gold that add a splash of colour. When we checked out the jewellery, we noticed that she works with a beautiful coloured gemstone for the studs. Recently, popular actress Nivetha Pethuraj was spotted wearing an elegant custom-made cocktail ring and earrings designed by Divya, which she confesses became quite popular among her clients. Divya also offers an opportunity to digitally check out what the transformed pieces may look like, by using virtual mannequins incase her patrons want to upcycle old jewellery in gold.

Rs 30,000 onwards.
