Co-founded by couple Ritesh Kamani and Neha Kamani in 2012, the label specialises in hand embroidery. Last week, the flagship store saw the launch of ‘The Whimsical Winter Wedding’ collection with a meet and greet event in presence of celebrity sari draper Dolly Jain, stylist Danielle Jones and make-up artist Bridgette Jones. “The Whimsical Winter Wedding by Kalighata plans to cater to each and everyone in the guest list of the bride and make her look picture perfect for the occasion” says Neha.

The collection ranges from lehengas and shararas to jumpsuits, semi-palazzo pants and long jackets with an ethnic touch. The shades are a riot of colours as it ranges from the traditional red to summery shades such as canary yellow, rapture rose and pastel hues like dusk pink, marmalade orange and powder blue.

Coming to the embroidery and embellishments, while the last season focussed a lot on faux fur and feathers, the last six months witnessed them embracing experimentation with lots of Zari and Gota work on chiffon and net with deep necks and sheer backs. Besides these, they have incorporated materials such as Banarasi, silk, and Georgette.

Positioning themselves as a one stop shop for all the requirements of a traditional wedding, Kalighata has included a sari section in the store. “The weddings now don't follow the age-old rules when it comes to sartorial styles. So, we offer a mix and added style and substance to Indian fabrics, keeping the ethnic roots intact. We have combined flared tops with draped dhoti pants, bright peplums with muted semi-palazzos and jumpsuits in silk with Gota and sequin work” adds Neha.
