Minimal. Bold. Experimental. Oh, and did we mention made out of copper wire frames and discarded brass tubes? This best describes the jewellery by Studio Anviksha, an eponymous brand started by Anviksha Shukla who is a civil engineer by profession. It was the onset of the new wave of contemporary designers using unconventional materials to create statement pieces that lent the 25-year-old inspiration to create a niche.

Conceptualising an entire collection based on the shape of her base material—copper and brass as wires, frames or tubes—following a haul from Tambat Ali market in Pune, the majority of Anviksha’s designs are geometric. “It’s always about what I can make with a given shape. My collections are always a combination of drawings and metal-smithing,” begins the Ahmedabad-based designer, who love the antique finish of the metal and just unveiled her collection of ear studs.

Handcrafted pieces, with each taking almost three days to complete, shapes like the horseshoe, spirals, squares and circles are intrinsic to the line, we learn. While the occasional lapis, quartz and agate do make their way into her design, minimalism is a key factor. “I like the antique, raw feeling that copper and brass bring to jewellery and with too many additional elements this tends to be lost,” shares Anviksha, who loves creating textured designs.

With a maximum of 10 to 12 pieces with every collection, the designer works on each piece individually. “My production process is of utmost importance to me.”
Already onto her next collection, Anviksha is looking at creating large ‘statement pieces’ in addition to her current repertoire of earrings, rings, necklaces and pendants.
