Sugar, the cosmetics brand that was only available through small kiosks in shopping malls, launched its flagship store in Kolkata last week. Their 300 sq ft store at Forum Mall in Elgin Road brings its entire range of cosmetics – from the rich shades of lipsticks, to the bright nail paints and infinitely blend-able foundations to the intensely pigmented kohls.
Talking about the launch, Vineeta Singh, CEO Sugar Cosmetics said, “The primary reason for starting our flagship store in Kolkata is that we have a lot of customers form here. Second, we started a kiosk in November last year at Lake Mall, a very small counter, but the feedback has been phenomenal.”
The store that will have make-up artistes to help guide the customers and do their makeover as well will have 72 shades of their liquid lipstick that lasts for 16 hours! Their long-lasting crayons will also be available in 18 hues. “Lip being our biggest category will have the best sellers that are known to last long. One can also find foundations, primers, setting spray and everything that is essential in a women’s vanity bag,” said Singh, who believes the products are designed keeping in mind the weather of the city. She adds, “Sugar is designed for the hottest and most sultry weather. It’s sweat resistant, water proof and perfect for the weather.”
After the successful launch, Sugar will soon move to other cities. “We are already available as a brand in 50 cities and this year we intend to double the presence. The next launch is a surprise but there will be many more stores across India,” informed Singh.
Sharing a tip for the upcoming season Singh recommended, “Red and pinks are never going to go out of fashion and our range will make you spoil for choice. Also nudes in 12 different shades are a must have.” For those who follow the trend, the wearable coral, pantone colour of the year, is also available.
