Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo announces its launch in India

Lovers of all things minimalistic have reason to rejoice as Japan’s much-loved clothes store, Uniqlo is all set to open its doors in New Delhi in October. The brand, known for its basics such as shirts, trousers, and t-shirts, will launch three outlets in Delhi alone.

The first store, at Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj, is expected to be spread across 35,000 square feet and will stock pieces from the brand’s complete men’s, women’s and kids’ collections. Their brand is built around the concept of ‘LifeWear’, which translates to functional, simple, durable and high quality clothing, that are also chic, modern and stylish at the same time.

Some of their popular collections include the UT line of graphic T-shirts, products of collaborations with the likes of Pixar, Hello Kitty, Disney Blue and Nintendo Super Mario. Besides their graphic tees, they have also collaborated with names like Alexander Wang and JW Anderson in the past.

Uniqlo’s parent company Fast Retailing, founded by Japanese billionaire Tadashi Yanai, is one of the largest fashion retailers in the world, and is considered to be in the same league as Sweden’s H&M and Spain’s Inditex. Uniqlo, which first opened in 1984 in Hiroshima, has more than 3,445 stores worldwide in countries including the UK, USA, Australia, Russia, China and Singapore.

Following the opening of the Vasant Kunj outlet, the brand will launch in DLF Place Saket, Delhi and DLF CyberHub, Gurugram.
