Who amongst us hasn’t dreamt of sporting long and pretty lashes without taking the time and effort to do up our eyes? What if we tell you that the next time you want to cry over a mushy movie, you can do so with fluttery lashes and no fear of streaking mascara?

Eyelash extensions, the answer to all of it, have been around for a long time and are very popular in the West. However, most people around here are still apprehensive of getting artificial lashes done, observes Chennai-based entrepreneur Renuka Praveen. The 32-year-old is all set to bust the myths around lash extensions as she launches The Lash Studio.in, Chennai’s first exclusive lash studio in KNK road. “Eyelash extensions make life  a  lot easy. With that, you won’t have to use mascara or eyeliner. They will make your eyes stand out on its own. You wake up with beautiful lashes every day,” says Renuka, who was previously in the banking sector in the UK.

“I have been wearing volume lashes for three years now. When I moved to Chennai two years back, I realised that there were no exclusive lash studios here. I found it difficult to find a qualified lash technician to get my infills done. Very few salons offered lash extensions among many other services. That’s when I decided to start my own studio here,” shares Renuka, who went back and did an Eyelash Extension Course from Bristol Beauty Academy.

At the 400 sq ft studio, Renuka primarily offers two services — lash lifts and lash extensions. “Many of us have dark and long lashes but they are straight. A lash lift is when we lift and curl the natural lashes so that it stays that way for almost a month.”

Talking further about the different types of lash extensions, she says each set is unique and customised based on the condition of the client’s natural lashes. “Some clients would want natural looking ones while some others prefer dramatic lashes. There are three types of extensions — classic, hybrid, and volume. A classic set is when only one extension is glued to each natural lash, whereas with volume lashes, multiple extensions (up to five) are attached to one natural lash, giving it more dimension and texture,” shares Renuka, adding that she gets all her products imported from London.

Launches on May 22.
